Detailed appraisals and annotations accompany each poster, as well as biographical information and an insight into Cappielo's graphic method. An additional 50 color illustrations show the many other facets of Cappiello's talents - from book and magazine illustrations, to paintings, maquettes, postcards and, most of all, his superb early caricatures. Carol Prisant
0761128220
August 2003

From Publishers Weekly
This lavishly illustrated and enthusiastically written guide to modern collectibles is another success by Prisant (Antiques Roadshow Primer), capturing on the printed page the excitement of the top-rated PBS television series Antiques Roadshow. An excellent introductory essay, "Collecting 101," is a helpful look at the field of collecting itself that includes some tips that even the most experienced collector should remember ("Work on self-discipline"). But this is clearly a book for the novice, and Prisant makes it clear that this is not a definitive work but "a brief overview of the types of collectibles that are brought most often to Antiques Roadshow." Her selection is impeccable, and she provides highly informative chapters on ceramics, advertising, glass, sports collectibles, toys, fashion and textiles,...

Apple T-Shirts: A Yearbook of History at Apple Computer
Gordon Thygeson

Mark Delfs, MacTimes Network, April 24, 1998
You will find roughly a thousand or so T-shirt designs, all having something to do with Apple Computer. I mean, there are shirts for the PowerBook teams, the Newton teams, the Apple II teams, the System 7 teams, the beta-testers, and even shirts for the Flint team. Some of my favorite Apple T-shirts? One is the "System 7 sucks less--We've upped our standards--up yours." (pg. 49) My other favorites include most of the Copland (or "Copeland" in one screwed-up shirt) (pg. 52), and the obligatory "Windows '95=Macintosh '89." These are a mere few of the great ones--trust me on that. What Gordon has done with his book is pull all of the Apple spirit from the early years into one colorful place that totally astonished myself upon reading.

Review
If MTV is any indication, the face of rock'n'roll needs plastic surgery. Sure, Britney's got a hot belly and Beyonce a glorious booty, but sex is this close to selling itself out. Soon, people will be demanding money shots in their milk commercials. Where's an intelligent consumer to find imagery that both tickles the brain and plugs one into popular culture?

Try Paul Grushkin and Dennis King's Art of Modern Rock, which showcases in full color more than 1600 rock posters and flyers by some 200 international artists, from veterans like Frank Kozik to up-and-comers a la Leia Bell. More than a sequel to Art of Rock (Abbeville, 1987)—Grushkin's best-selling survey of psychedelic posters from the 1960s and 1970s—this is the definitive document of a tens-of-thousands-strong countercultural revolution that...

James Bond Movie Posters
Tony Nourmand

February 2004
Paperback

From Publishers Weekly
Campy, sexy and legendary in their own right, the James Bond movie posters in this whopper of a compilation feature every movie from 1962's Dr. No to 1999's The World Is Not Enough. All the usual suspects are here: the logo, the girls, the tag lines and the various incarnations of 007, including David Niven and George Lazenby. The author throws in a few surprises, too, including foreign, regional, unused, festival and special posters, assorted cross-promotional pieces and other displays. There's even a poster altered by theater owners who were afraid of offending patrons, evidencing that Bond art, like Bond movies, "always pushed the boundaries." In addition to the full-color (often full-page) reproductions, Nourmand, a dealer in international film posters and consultant for Christie's, offers commentary on each...

Campbell Kids
Aric Chen

Oct 2004
Hardcover
·

From Publishers Weekly
The opening page spread showing selected Campbell kids from each decade, starting with their creation in 1904 to their present (and possible future) incarnations, neatly illustrates this book’s premise, which is to chronicle changes in America through apple-cheeked cartoon children. Chen begins with the story of the soup company itself, then focuses on the metamorphoses of the kids, first drawn by Grace Gebbie Drayton, whose "full figure, round face, pug nose, and wide-set eyes bore a remarkable resemblance to the children she adoringly created." As the book’s many photos attest, the popularity of the characters propelled them into magazines, onto postcards and led to their formation as dolls. The American history that Chen imparts is predictably stereotyped, rooted as it is in advertisements: the kids...
