Book Review
Sew until your heart is content. This is the first book I pick up if I am about to give a room a quick face lift. When I cannot bear to look at that old sofa for one more minute, I can find a way to make a cover for it in just hours. I have used it to cover dining room chairs for unexpected dinner parties and whipped up a bed duvet for the guestroom in just one day. I will not let anyone borrow this book from my library. Sorry. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Review
With a lay-flat spiral binding, sturdy paper, and gatefold pages that enable each project to be presented across a single spread, this is a highly practical workbook in a very attractive package, like the other titles in the Home Living Workbook series (Pillows, Lampshades, and Bed Linens). Good color photos and crisp color diagrams complement complete how-to instructions for 20 projects, including feather-light tie-on sheers; elegant linen drapes; deftly tailored stripes; skirted, monogrammed, or gracefully shaped valances; and ideas for edgings, appliques, and other restrained adornments. "Simple curtains," says noted stylist Katrin Cargill, "make stylish statements that are subtly effective rather than overly dramatic ... and because they do not require yards and yards of material, you can use that irresistible fabric...

The fourth in the Home Living Workbook series, this title joins its mates (Pillows, Lampshades, and Simple Curtains) as a smartly designed, attractive presentation featuring convenient lay-flat binding and foldout pages packed with practical instructions and excellent photos and diagrams. Cargill, recently named the first-ever designer-in-residence at Victoria magazine, chooses good-looking (but not necessarily expensive) fabrics for her bedspreads, dust ruffles, pillows, canopies, and headboards, and carefully explains their construction in 20 step-by-step projects that can turn a bedroom from a rudimentary sleeping space to a haven for relaxation and romance. --Amy Handy
