From Publishers Weekly
This illustrated collection features 750 varieties of hostas: those "exotic, luxuriant-leafed perennials," as HRH The Prince of Wales describes in his preface, that have spread their way into gardens and greenhouses everywhere. In entries organized by color, hosta specialist Grenfell reviews the special needs and features of each, also offering advice on designing beds and containers and combating pests and diseases. Appendices include hardiness zone maps for Europe and North America, suggestions for how to use and where to see hostas, and a glossary. Shadrack’s...

From Booklist
PreS-Gr. 1. Jaguars in jammies and snakes swinging from stars bring the ABCs to life in this animal-themed alphabet book. The animal antics are described in snappy, rhyming verse, which sometimes sneaks in some counting practice: "Two mischievous monkeys mambo on the moon / Nine hungry newts are looking for a spoon." Each letter gets one full-page collage illustration, and the pictures are exceptional. Color, shape, and texture are used to great effect, and the compositions are well designed. Unfortunately the cover, which features a large heart filled with letters, won't attract the audience this book deserves. Lauren...
