From School Library Journal
Grades 6-10--Cusick does a good job of building suspense in this supernatural thriller. To get her twin brother Charlie to take her friend Val to the winter dance, Emma Donovan accepts his challenge to spend a night in the creepy, empty house next door that is supposedly haunted. Soon, the 17-year-old finds herself caught in a century-old love affair with anything but a happy ending. She becomes deeply involved in the secrets of the house, and Charlie and Val struggle to save her before the romance plays out its tragic conclusion a second time. Though the characters are fairly typical for the genre, they successfully sustain the mood of the story, and Cusick has incorporated some effective "twin speak" details into the story. The scenes involving two spinster neighbors are an unnecessary and distracting...

From School Library Journal
Grade 10 Up–Lucy is sure that someone is following her when she stumbles across a bruised and bloodied girl who passes on her psychic abilities just before dying. Now the teen is tormented by visions indicating that the killer is stalking her. Her only confidant is Byron, the murdered girl's handsome, brooding brother. At the end of part one, however, the two are involved in a car accident that leaves Byron dead and Lucy found clinging to life by her stalker. In the second installment, Lucy escapes after three unconscious days of captivity, but now must deal with the loss of Byron and an even stronger feeling of being haunted by someone, or something. So far, there are hints at a tortured, ancient soul with a vampirelike appetite and an ability to take on any physical form that he desires. While the...

From Publishers Weekly
This silly, nearly incoherent novel begins when its heroine, Darcy, comes to live with her Uncle Jake. Strange events occur even before Darcy's arrival--a girl is found murdered, and on her neck are lipstick marks in the shape of a vampire's bite. When several other girls are murdered in the same fashion, Darcy begins to suspect Jake and various others among her new friends. Meanwhile, vague romantic yearnings spring up between Darcy and nearly all the young men in the novel, including Jake--who (readers may well be relieved to discover) is not really Darcy's uncle. Those with great tenacity may have the energy to follow this book to its very end, if only to find out whether it ever starts making sense. But even die-hard fans of the genre will find little to relish in this tedious would-be horror tale. Ages...
