From School Library Journal
Grade 10 Up –Slamm!is an appropriate title for this collection of hard-boiled detective stories in which characters continually slam into one another. The selections make readers privy to numerous fight scenes in which one character's clenched fist slams into his opponent's face, dislodging teeth and splattering blood. In "Granny Gumption Solves a Murder," one man continually slams into an elderly woman, alternately using his cane and foot until she is bludgeoned and stomped to death. While the author may have intended this as a parody of the Miss Marple type of mystery story, the ageist and misogynistic undertones are hard to ignore. Henderson's stories draw on the tradition of the detective story established by Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, and Mickey Spillane, retaining such genre trappings as...

Book Description
From C. J. Henderson, a new novel about a young woman from the city who searches for her family in the mountains of West Virginia, seeking knowledge from her past that could unlock the mysteries in her life. Patty couldn't tell whether there were people living in the house or not. It was definitely the house she was looking for and obviously still under construction. The newness and grandeur of the house itself seemed odd, as it had been restored over an old stone foundation and built on grounds that had been neglected for years. Ornate gothic gates, attached to a seven-foot, ancient wrought-iron fence surrounding the property, stood one at each end of a brick driveway with weeds that, sprouting along the entire expanse, made it evident that the fence and gates had been put up in the distant past and were...

Book Description
The third in the series and perhaps the best. She how makes even more characters come alive in your mind's eye. Also revisit some of the characters from the previous two novels. You will want to see what Annabelle and Daisy and Aunt Aggie get involved in during this latest episode. C.J. winds many spine tingling parts of the different people's lives into others and keeps the reader on the edge of his seat and waiting for the next book in the series.

About the Author
C.J. Henderson was born on Christmas Day. Her father, a coal miner, was a storyteller who kept his listeners spellbound. Raised on stories about C.C. Camp, Ponds Murder Farm, and other fearsome tales that came straight from her father's mind, C.J. began telling her friends stories of her own, oftentimes getting...

Book Description
A soaring voyage of the imagination from the husband-and-wife team of Boris Vallejo, America's premier fantasy artist, and Julie Bell, designer of the popular Dragons of Destiny sculpture series. Here are thirteen all-new paintings set in a dazzling alternate world inhabited by lithe goddesses, sensual maidens, and fierce warrior women rendered in meticulous anatomical detail. Fighting sinister serpents, soaring through the air astride magical steeds, or reigning from a throne of tangled boughs, their luxurious hair flows, muscles ripple, and eyes shine with valor and intensity. Weaving the paintings together is an enthralling original narrative by C.J. Henderson, author of the Teddy London series.

From Booklist
One wonders if the world is in need of yet another science fiction encyclopedia, be it covering film, television, or literature. Yet it is hard to fault this offering from Facts On File. In spite of some rather dubious additions to make the work appeal to the science fiction market (an off-putting introduction by Star Trek's William Shatner and an interview with Frank Herbert discussing the first movie adaptation of Dune,) it provides a basic overview of the science fiction movie genre. The main part consists of alphabetically arranged entries for more than 1,300 theatrical-release science fiction movies. Some basic credits are included, as well as the availability of the title on video, DVD, or laser disc. Then follows a synopsis and the author's opinions of the movie's watchability, validity as science fiction, and...
