From Library Journal
Actor Jay O. Sanders provides an acceptable narration of best-selling author Clancy's (Debt of Honor, Audio Reviews, LJ 11/15/94) reactivation of hostilities between the United States and Russia. With widespread crop failures and the sudden death of Boris Yeltsin, the Russian situation is dire at best. Old-school communists see the opportunity to scuttle American relief efforts by launching a terrorist attack in Times Square. Roger Gordian, a U.S. businessman, finds his multinational corporation in peril and takes the initiative to prevent escalation to full-scale war. Sanders's Russian accents are shaky and seem more appropriate to a Rocky and Bullwinkle adventure. Clancy's abridged story is subject to frequent character shifts, and the action is difficult to follow. Libraries may skip this disjointed effort. Not...

The Constitution in Exile: How the Federal Government Has Seized Power by Rewriting the Supreme Law of the Land
Andrew P. Napolitano

From Publishers Weekly
Napolitano, New Jersey Superior Court Judge and analyst for Fox News, explains how the federal government has manipulated the Constitution to take power from the states and the people. Written for a general audience, Napolitano's book also includes a brief history of the founding of the United States, the Bill of Rights, the specific powers granted to Congress in the Constitution and an explanation of relevant legal precedents. Napolitano's nonpartisan apprehension toward a strong central government is clear as he takes issue with both Democratic and Republican legislative initiatives, including the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1992, the Patriot Act, attempted FCC regulation of HDTV sets and the retention of Yasser Hamdi and Jose Padilla. However, the book is disappointingly sparse on ways to fix the...

From Library Journal
Roger Gordian's troubles, which we heard about in Ruthless.com, continue in this work. Terrorists are out to get him, and this time they have a special microwave weapon. This clean, untraceable device cooks up some very big disasters involving, e.g., a space shuttle on the launch pad and a train in Brazil. The nonstop action in this story takes place in Florida, Brazil, and Kazakhstan. Like in Ruthless.com, the listener is given a great amount of detail concerning the weapons and equipment. Experienced actor J.K. Simmons displays his vocal versatility in this reading; he moves at a steady pace and is especially good with the narrative portions. For all action collections.AMichael T. Book Review Audiobook Review
Another in the popular series of Op-Center thrillers, Balance of Power sets the stage in Spain, as tensions between various ethnic factions are pushing the country to the brink of disaster.

This audio version is narrated by Jay O. Sanders (JFK, Kiss the Girls) in a rich basso profundo, but the usual Clancyesque intelligence jargon, technospeak, and geopolitical shorthand prove to be more than a mouthful. Sanders does his best to keep pace with the considerable action, but it's a tall order, especially with the added complications of Spanish names, places, and dialogue, which, for him, are obviously in a foreign language.

As the story unfolds, high-level diplomatic and intelligence teams are working overtime to diffuse the crisis when their efforts are shot down by an assassin's bullet. That's when the...
